A ship tunnel

Worlds first ship tunnel – and we live on the mainland without a road connection!

On the west coast of Norway they have decided to build the first ships tunnel in the wold. The Stad Ships Tunnel. This video is in Norwegian, but I will soon find more info on this great project.

The tunnel will bypass one exposed sea lane where over 100 ships have perished, and even the newer larger freighters and cruise ships can experience trouble. They can all use the ships tunnel when finished in a few years.

Statsminister Jens Stoltenberg og hans regjering gir nå en milliard kroner til tunnelprosjektet ved Stad, som vil se slik ut.  The profile of the tunnel from the 2007 report

I have written about this project  before, and will again. On the Sunshine Coast we live as we if it was an Island, but we are part of the mainland BC. And we have no road connection. What is wrong ?

To build a road to Vancouver and / or Squamish is just a matter of a commitment, and some tunnels. To build tunnels via Bowen, Gambier is just as easy, as a matter of fact, we should build both, for many reason.

Civic boosters at Stad on Norway's northwest coast have long promoted the idea of a building a tunnel for ships, so they could avoid stormy seas around the West Cape. They're not giving up.
